Do It Yourself Office Cleaning:Reduce, Recycle and Reuse to Keep Your Personal Office Space Clean
Treat you personal office space as your home environment. That means you must keep it comfortable, relaxing and clean for you. For practical purposes, you can even apply the three R’s which most environmentalists advocate for everyone to do. You have to reduce, recycle and reuse things which you find around the office worth doing so.
First thing you should do is to get organized. Start with your paperwork and files. You may have to go through each item thoroughly. Separate outdated files and paperwork which you think you don’t need anymore. Place them in a box and decide if these items have to be taken out of the office permanently to reduce the clutter in your office space.
Remember to be careful when looking over important office records like financial statements or contracts, client details and other important financial matters. You can place them in separate labeled boxes by indicating the contents and time periods of these papers for easy reference. You’ll never know if you may reuse them again in the future.
Place these boxes in another room which you can designate as your storage room for all your boxes. Just remember to arrange them neatly and properly for your own convenience. If you have done this well, then you have successfully cleaned your files and even archived them correctly.
Next, go through your personal office supplies on your desk. Throw out the empty and old items that can no longer be used. Anything in excess that are still in good condition and relatively new can be returned to the office supplies room. These can be still used by your officemates. This can be considered good recycling since you have supplies that can still be used, and this saves money, too, since no new supplies would be bought in the meantime.
Then decide if you want more clean space in your office. This means you would have to remove furniture that you don’t need. You may also have to take out office machines that are outdated and no longer usable for you. In do doing; you opt to have more movable space for yourself, and a cleaner personal space, too.
That was cleaning your own personal space. Now with regards to cleaning the entire office, you have to be discriminating about it. Since this is going to be something personal for you and for your officemates, then you may be more conscious of doing it for everyone’s satisfaction. You may have to list down the cleaning materials you need to do the cleaning. You have to buy a good all purpose disinfecting spray to be used for everything that is touched in the office like door knobs, phones, keys, office staplers, punchers, keys and others; and even your computer, its keyboard, mouse and printer.
You may have to buy the right cleaners and disinfectants to clean your furniture, cabinets and filing drawers, windows, window blinds, desks and chairs and other surfaces that you need to clean around.
You can clean the small rugs and carpets by washing them and drying them out. Then you can mop the floor with water and some mild disinfectant, and then finally vacuum off for the final shine. You must also make sure to clean the light fixtures or replace the busted ones with new lights. If you are leasing the office, you may have to ask permission to clean the office walls especially if you want new paint for a cleaner look. Do the same with the window sills to create the total clean look. It’s like just cleaning your home, you make sure that everything works and looks good.
The chance of cleaning the office by yourself along with your officemates shows unity and concern about how you like your office to be maintained. Choosing the weekend to clean your office is a little sacrifice compared to the results that you would derive from it. You save money because you don’t spend for a cleaning service company to do the job. You would highly appreciate the clean look of the office because you did it yourself. All your efforts are geared towards leaving an impression of a clean, well-maintained and comfortable office to work for. You can choose to do this when your office needs a thorough cleaning. But this does not mean you spend more time cleaning than working; it simply means that if you have the discipline to keep everything clean and proper in their right places, office cleaning would be done only as needed.
